Films depicting Georgia-Abkhazia relations translated for Abkhaz audience

Georgian movies that discuss the Georgia-Abkhazia relationship are being translated into the Abkhazian language as a way to promote Georgian movies in the breakaway region.
The Other Bank (Gagma Napiri)by Oscar nominee movie director Georg Ovashvili is the first movie to be translated within the project.
The film tells about the extraordinary internal drama of a young boy named Tedo; his thoughts, passions, feelings and efforts to cope with difficulties that span from his displacement from his hometown Abkhazia.
In the film, the 12-year-old is constantly challenged by many obstacles. Tedo belongs to the generation which was forced into mass displacement because of civil war in Abkhazia, one of the most beautiful places of Georgia. The war took away everything Tedo had, even hope.
The idea to translate the film into Abkhazian was a joint effort between film director Ovashvili and the Ministry of the Culture and Monument Protection of Georgia. The aim of the project was to promote Georgian movies in Abkhazia, Georgia’s breakaway region.
Today, Minister of Culture Mikheil Giorgadze handed copies of The Other Bank movie with Abkhazian subtitles to the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia.
The project was implemented by the Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection after being initiated by Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili.
Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili stated at today’s governmental meeting that the Georgian Dream government is creating a state program to protect and develop the Abkhazian language, the language of the Georgian region which is now occupied by Russia.
