Georgian sailors can now be employed in the Korean maritime industry thanks to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Georgian and Korean sides.

The agreement, which details the mutual recognition of certificates for sailors training and certification standards, was signed by Georgia’s Maritime Transport Agency and Korea’s Ministry of Fisheries with the support of Georgia’s Embassy to Korea.

The signing of the MoU created the legal basis for Georgian sailors to find jobs with Korean merchant marine ships.

The Korean side said Georgia had "quite highly skilled sailors" and several companies were already interested in hiring them.
