Consultations between the Georgian Government and the business society are continuing as the authorities take action to curb possible negative effects of the depreciating value of the Lari against the US dollar.

Today Georgia’s Finance Minister Nodar Khaduri met representatives of the oil sector, while yesterday he met local businessmen. The purpose of the meetings was to avoid price increases on the cost of goods and services due to the ongoing depreciation of the national currency.

At today’s meeting the Finance Minister informed the oil sector representatives about the Government’s planned legislative initiatives that would help develop and support the oil industry.

Khaduri said the oil industry was a very important sector that could assist the development of the country’s economy and was one of the largest taxpayer groups. Accordingly, he thought it was important for both sides to discuss the country’s current economic climate and made decisions together.
