Two Latvian tourists stuck in snow at Jvari pass in Georgia's Kazbegi region have been rescued by the staff of Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA). The tourists have been taken to a safe place after being stranded by heavy snow.
A statement released by the press service of the Ministry said the Emergency Management Agency of the MIA went into action after they received a call for help from the tourists on the 112 emergency hotline.
"Owing to bad meteorological conditions a rescue brigade could not reach the destination during the day. However the rescuers were able to contact the tourists by telephone and they knew that their lives were not at risk. [The tourists] were sheltered in a tent, waiting for aid,” the MIA said.
