Military servicemen from NATO member and partner countries are gathering in Georgia to participate in a three-week specialised winter training course that tests soldiers’ abilities in the snow.
More than a dozen servicemen are currently taking part in the Mountain Training Winter Course, which is being held at Gudauri, one of Georgia’s winter resorts. The training course started on February 21 and will come to an end on March 13.
Within the NATO Partnership for Peace (PfP) program, Georgian soldiers were joined by 25 military servicemen from NATO member and partner countries – Lithuania, Latvia, Portugal, Poland, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Ukraine and Moldavia. The three-week training is being hosted by Sachkhere Mountain Training School.
Chief of General Staff of the Georgian Air Forces (GAF), Major General Vakhtang Kapanadze observed the mountain training in Gudauri today.
Instructors of the Sachkhere Mountain Training School demonstrated skiing techniques to participants during the first stage of the basic course.
During the training, the soldiers will learn and practice how to move effectively on the snow and ice, conduct a thorough search in the winter conditions and complete rescue operations.
