Speaker of Georgian Parliament David Usupashvili has finished his official visit to Armenia with a meeting with the country’s president.

Domestic and foreign policy was on the agenda when Usupashvili met Armenia’s president Serzh Sargsyan in Yerevan yesterday.

Sargsyan underlined the friendly relations between Georgia and Armenia and noted their relations were based on a strong historical foundation.

"Georgia is our friend and an important economic partner, which Armenia considers not only bilateral cooperation, but in the regional context as well. If there is a problem in any country of the region, it entails a threat to the whole region. Therefore a threat to Georgia is a threat to Armenia as well,” he said.

Usupashvili, from his side, thanked Sargsyan for his warm hospitality. He said despite the countries’ different foreign aspirations, Georgia and Armenia remained friends and high ranking visits were evidence to this fact.

Usupashvili also spoke about current situation in the region and the so-called "Alliance and Strategic Partnership” agreement between Russia and the de facto regimes of Georgia’s occupied territories.

Usupashvili’s meeting with the Armenian president was his last within the official visit of Georgia’s Parliamentary delegation to Armenia.

The Georgian delegation held meetings with other political leaders of Armenia, including Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan and Foreign Minister Eduard Nalbandyan during their trip.

The Georgian delegation has already returned home yesterday evening.
