Georgian leaders are congratulating the people of Lithuania on the 97th anniversary of Lithuania becoming an independent state.
The country’s President Giorgi Margvelashvili congratulated his Lithuanian counterpart Dalia Grybauskaite on the Independence Day of her country, which is marked annually on February 16.
On this remarkable day I wish to emphasize that the friendly relations and cooperation between Georgia and Lithuania is successfully developing in political, economic and cultural areas. I believe the historical ties and close cooperation between our countries will be further strengthened and deepened for both nations’ success,” said Margvelashvili.
I would like to express my deep respect for you and I wish peace and prosperity for the people of Lithuania.”
Lithuania first gained independence from the Russian Federation in 1918. Lithuania enjoyed some two decades of independence from 1918 to 1939 before again being occupied by Soviet forces. The State of Lithuania was formally reestablished in 1990, therefore today marked the 25thanniversary of Lithuania’s restoration of independence.
