About a billion people from all over the world will soon get the change to explore Georgia’s unique natural sights and landscapes from the comfort of their home and work thanks to a new addition to Google Chrome.
The popular internet browser will soon add an extension to its current site and provide its one billion users the chance to see scrolling images of Georgia on their desktop.
For this to take shape, Georgia’s Environmental Information and Education Centre announced a new project that encouraged local amateur and professional photographers to send in their favourite images of the country, before the best being selected to feature on Google Chrome.
The project will not only show some of the country’s most amazing landscapes but promote local photographers in the process.
Once the project ended and the successful images were chosen, Google Chrome will use the photographs as a background for every ‘new tab’ page opened by a user, presenting a high resolution widescreen picture illustrating Georgia’s biodiversity and its protected natural areas.
After installing the application, when Google Chrome users click on a ‘new tab’ they will enjoy scenes of Georgia’s diverse landscape. Photo from www.startupstockphotos.com.
The Environmental Information and Education Centre, a state organisation, noted a special commission panel would assess the submitted photographs before selecting those to send to Google Chrome.
Extensions for the ‘new tab’ page in Google Chrome and other major browsers were a popular way for users to transform their visual browsing experience, according to ratings and reviews by users of Momentum, one of the several applications found on the official Chrome extension page.
The extension was an optional extra that Google Chrome users can choose to install via the Chrome Web Store and later managed in their browser settings.
