A group of Georgians who used deceit to fraudulently shop online have been brought to justice under the country’s cybercrime laws.
This week Georgian police detained 43 people for unauthorised alteration of computer data and swindling almost 100,000 GEL.
The country’s cybercrime investigators discovered the offenders had deceitfully purchased various services and products through an online shopping website. The goods were worth about $95,000 GEL but the offenders paid less than a fraction of this cost.
Information released today by the Ministry of Internal Affairs stated the offenders illegally appropriated services and products of the website by artificially altering the price in the electronic payment orders and indicated 0.01 GEL instead of the actual price of the goods.
As a result, the online company suffered from 95,047 GEL in losses.
All 43 accused pled guilty in court, the Ministry added.
