Georgia’s alpine resort village Bakuriani is undergoing major renovations to offer its visitors top quality service and an overall better experience in the winter months.
New transportation, hospitality and entertainment infrastructure is being constructed and installed at the central Georgian mountainous town ahead of the 2015-2016 winter season.
The popular resort will undergo significant modernisation of its skiing trail network infrastructure, with a new ski lift station earmarked to be built on Mount Kokhta. This development is scheduled to conclude by the end of this year.
The new mid-mountain station will be supported by hotels, cottages, catering and entertainment facilities, all to be built nearby.
More redevelopment work will take place on Bakuriani’s Mount Didveli, where a multi-functional wellness and fitness centre will open. The plan for the complex also included construction of an aqua park operated by those who run Gino Paradise in capital Tbilisi.
After visiting Bakuriani today Georgia’s Economy and Sustainable Development Minister Dimitri Kumsishvili said the developments aimed to offer visitors "meaningful ways of spending time after their skiing activities”.
The first stage of the Didveli area development will begin next spring and open for visitors for the 2016-2017 winter season.
The updated Bakuriani resort will be supported by improved transportation from nearby Borjomi, according to an agreement signed between the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development and the Rixos Borjomi Hotel.
The agreement involved a free shuttle bus between Borjomi and Bakuriani during the winter and summer seasons.
Kumsishvili said the introduction of the shuttle bus would offer those in Borjomi "more comfortable conditions” when they travelled to Bakuriani to ski.
