Some of the best films recently produced in Georgia are set to be screened in almost two dozen regions of Georgia, allowing the regional audience to enjoy and appreciate films made in their home country.

From today people in 19 Georgian regions will get the chance to see eight films made in the Georgia that have been recognised at leading international festivals.

Each of the films will be released every Thursday for a week’s screening in culture centres and auditoriums in the regions as part of a project run by the Ministry of Culture and the National Film Centre.

The selected films were produced between 2013 and 2015 and will be projected using equipment installed in the halls by the Culture Ministry.

Culture Minister Mikheil Giorgadze said the initiative would "benefit local film distribution network development” and enable citizens in the regions to view the award-winning cinema.

The films chosen for screening include international award winning film Corn Island by director George Ovashvili as well as Line of Credit by director Salome Alexi and Brides by director Tinatin Kajrishvili, both of which were nominated for prizes at European cinema competitions.

The project will conclude on September 10.
