Beauty salons have opened today in three penitentiary facilities of Georgia, employing prisoners that have successfully completed stylist courses.
Stylist profession certificates have been granted to 33 prisoners in the #5, #12 and #15 prisons.
In addition to gaining particular vocational skills necessary to become a qualified stylist, the inmates will also be paid for their job.
A special statement by the Ministry of Corrections and Legal Assistance said the opening of several beauty salons was the latest prisoner support project.
"The Ministry of Corrections and Legal Assistance pays great attention to the rehabilitation of the prisoners and in particular, to the employment component of the convicts, as one of the effective direction for the crime prevention,” said the statement.
The Ministry also noted that besides beauty salons, garment and macaroni factories were already operating in penitentiary facilities. In addition, there were future plans to open a bread bakery and a shoe producing factory.
