Georgia postpones mandatory labelling of soft drinks

Georgia has postponed the enforcement of mandatory labelling of non-alcoholic beverages.

Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has commissioned the Finance Minister to postpone mandatory labelling of soft drinks.

The move comes after soft drink producers requested PM Garibashvili to postpone the labelling process after voicing their concerns about the difficulties they encountered associated with installation of labelling devices.

According to a bill drafted by the Ministry of Finance, labelling of carbonated, mineral and fresh water was due to start on September 1, 2015.

PM Garibashvili upheld soft drink producers’ request and commissioned the Finance Minister to postpone mandatory labelling of non-alcoholic beverages until November 1, 2015.
