A member of Germany's Bundestag (Germany's constitutional and legislative body) tasked with developing a report on Georgia for his country's parliament is in Georgia and attending top meetings with Georgian officials.

German Bundestag member Christoph Bergner has already met Georgia’s State Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Davit Bakradze, announced the Minister’s press office.

At the meeting the sides spoke about Georgia's European Union (EU) perspective, Georgia-EU relations, the Association Agreement (AA) and of ways Germany can assist Georgia implement the important deal. The pair also discussed relations on a regional scale, Georgia's relations with Russia and other neighboring countries.

Georgia's Bakradze highlighted details of how Georgia has strived to meet all criteria noted in the AA, and emphasized the country's progress in terms of the Visa Liberalisation Action Plan (VLAP). Bakradze expressed hope that this progress would be adequately reflected in decisions made by the EU at the upcoming Eastern Partnership Summit in Riga.

"Georgia is a country which constantly shows progress and this is important not only for our region but the whole of Europe as well,” Bakradze said.

In response, Bergner praised Georgia for achieving the end of phase one of the VLAP and hoped Georgia’s expectations of the upcoming summit will be justified. Bergner said the German Bundestag will ratify Georgia's AA with the EU shortly.
