Eighteen officers from Georgia's Migration Department have received training in the Netherlands from members of the Dutch Migration Department about efficient management of migrant accommodation centres.

The training was conducted under the European Union (EU)-funded project on Capacity Building of the State in Border and Migration Management, implemented by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).

During the five-day training, participants discussed issues connected with medical services at the migrants temporary accommodation centre, management in crisis situations as well as conflict avoidance and increasing good communication between those working and staying in the centre.

The EU has a strategic partnership with the IOM based on a shared interest in bringing the benefits of well-managed international migration to migrants and society. It also serves as a basis for exchange, development and structuring of the relationship between the EU and IOM.

In the Eastern Neighbourhood, common projects include developing effective readmission mechanisms in the South Caucasus and supporting the Eastern Partnership Panel on Migration and Asylum.
