A Georgian company and a Chinese company have been selected to compete in the final stage of the Anaklia Port development project.

Today it was revealed Georgia's Governmental Commission, led by Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili had invited two companies to submit proposals to build and operate Anaklia deep water port in western Georgia.

At today’s Government meeting Garibashvili said ‘preferred applicants’ in the final stage of the tender process were JSC Aanklia Development Consortium from Georgia and Power China Consortium from China. They had been selected from seven interested companies.

Now, the next step involved negotiations between the Commission and the ‘preferred applicants’, Garibashvili said.

After this both companies must submit a final proposal and once both proposals have been reviewed, the winning company will be revealed and contractually tasked to build and operate Anaklia deep water port.

Construction to enlarge the port is due to start in summer 2016.

The Anaklia Port development project is believed to create additional jobs, attract investments and provide a huge benefit to the Georgian economy.

When complete the renovated port will be located on the Black Sea coast of Georgia, near Anaklia resort in western Georgia. The facility will spread over 1,000 hectares and have access to a deep-sea canyon.

The Georgian Government first started taking action to develop the Analkia Port in August last year. At this time the Government invited local and international investors to show their interest in developing the port.

In October 2014, 12 applications were submitted from companies all over the globe and in December last year the Governmental Commission was created to oversee the tender process.
