International electronic and technology giant Royal Philips is set to open its regional headquarters in Georgia’s capital city, Tbilisi.

Royal Philips, more commonly known as Philips, is an innovative and diverse technology company, which provided consumer lifestyle goods such as refrigeration services to energy efficient lighting solutions and home healthcare, including cardiac care and oral healthcare.

The company’s executive director Harry Hedrick was in Tbilisi today to discuss the final details of the business launch with the country’s Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili.

The proposed Philips regional headquarter will coordinate its activities in eight countries from Tbilisi, including within the Caucasus region and central Asian countries. The centre was expected to provide consumers with production and service across a range of items Philips produced.

Prime Minister Garibashvili said fostering international investors like Philips within Georgia’s economy was a goal of the Government, and he believed there was a possibility to create a hub of international businesses here in Georgia.

Hedrick believed Georgia provided a very stable political and investment climate.

"We very much look forward to opening the regional office in Tbilisi by bringing the access to healthcare, energy efficiency lightening and well-being from here, Georgia,” he said.

Hedrick focused that he had many time read in books and articles about the friendliness of Georgian people and was impressed by the hospitality of locals.

Philips had discussed opening its regional headquarters in Tbilisi since meeting former Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili at the Davos Economic Forum in 2013.

Philips’ main headquarters are based in the Netherlands. Last year the company posted sales of €23.3 billion and employed about 112,000 employees in more than 100 countries.

The company is a global leader in consumer electronic products, home healthcare and energy efficient lighting solutions.
