A delegation representing Georgia’s Patriarchare, the office or jurisdiction of a patriarch, will bring the Holy Fire to Tbilisi.

The Holy Fire ignited in the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem earlier in the day in the presence of thousands of Christian pilgrims on the eve of Easter.

The Georgian delegation received a piece of the Holy Fire and will bring it to Tbilisi on a special flight.

The Holy Fire has descended on the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem on the eve of Orthodox Easter for more than 1,500 years.

The first accounts of this miracle, which symbolises the resurrection of Christ, date back to the 4th century A.D.

The Holy Fire ceremony, a high moment in the Eastern Christian calendar, was attended by pilgrims from around the world.
