Issues facing Georgia and regional security matters were discussed in a phone conversation between Georgian Defense Minister Irakli Alasania and US Congressman Michael Turner.
The pair conversed yesterday and spoke in detail about Georgia's desire to join NATO.
Alasania thanked the Congressman for his support demonstrated towards Georgia's NATO aspirations, the Georgian Defence Minister's press centre reported.
Turner once again called on the US Government to support granting Georgia with a Membership Action Plan (MAP) at the upcoming NATO Summit, for which Alasania expressed his gratitude.
During the conversation the sides also referred to the regional security issues and bilateral defence cooperation between Georgia and the United States.
Also today Alasania spoke with US Senator John McCain.
McCain said he firmly supported increasing Georgia’s defence capabilities and granting a Membership Action Plan (MAP) to Georgia, the Defence Minister's press centre reported.
The Senator reaffirmed he would spare no efforts to achieve this goal.
