A leaked phone conversation between two Russian Ambassadors appears to show the diplomats saying they would like to influence the countries where they work to have them recognize the independence of Georgia’s breakaway regions.

The footage also appeared to show the Ambassadors joking about the crisis in Ukraine and the possibility of future invasions in the United States and multiple European countries.

The video posted on March 30 under the YouTube account "Michael Berkan” involved Igor Chubarov, the Russian Ambassador to the African nation of Eritrea, and Sergey Baharev, the Russian Ambassador to Zimbabwe and Malawi.

During the conversation, Chubarov praised Baharev for the actions of Zimbabwe’s "correct approach” in refusing to resolve the crisis in Ukraine.

Zimbabwe voted against the United Nations Resolution, which declared Crimea’s referendum invalid.

When Bakharev asked Chubarov why Eritrea had abstained from the vote, Chubarov replied with laughter and said: "Well, never mind. All the same I will make them recognize South Ossetia and neighboring Abkhazia.”

After exchanging pleasantries, Chubarov then joked he was trying to drive home the message to the EU Heads of Mission that the Crimean referendum and further Russian imperialism was "only the beginning”.

He said: "Now I have a very simple task and for the time being I’m saying the only key thing to those EU [Heads of Mission]. I’m repeating ‘Guys, we’ve taken away Crimea but it’s not the ******* end.

"In the future we’ll take away your ******* Catalonia, Venice, as well as Cattleland (Scotland), and Alaska,’” he said as he laughed.

Neither diplomat has commented on the video today. The authenticity of the conversation has not been confirmed or denied.
