The Prime Minister of Georgia spoke emotionally to a group of University students about his concern over the situation in Ukraine.
The PM made his heartfelt comments during a speech about changes to the Education policy to a large crowd of students at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University today.
"Personally I am so concerned about what is going on in Ukraine,” Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said.
He spoke about the "friendly” relationship between Georgian citizens and the people of Ukraine, and said Georgia supported the country as it struggled to maintain its territorial integrity.
"We support Ukrainians’ decision and respect their choice to build a European, democratic, civilized country and we condemn any kind of encroachment of the state’s sovereignty. This is a firm position of ours, as a friendly country,” Garibahsvili said.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister said his Government had chosen a constructive policy toward Russia, "which was praised by European and American leaders”.
"I am not going to compete with anyone in making radical statements,” Garibahsvili said.
"Our position toward any issue should be pragmatic, wise and stable at the same time.”
