The Prime Minister of Georgia has expressed his desire to strengthen the country’s education policy in front of a large crowd of university students at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University today.
Irakli Garibashvili promised students the Government would launch an international center for education, grow University campuses give successful students the opportunity to be involved in internships at Government organisations.
At today’s question and answer session with the students, the Prime Minister came up with an idea to launch a new way of communicating with youth.
He decided an online application titled ‘Student’s Idea for Prime Minister’ will be created on the Prime Minister’s official Facebook page, to allow him to become acquainted with the ideas of the younger generation, including students.
Mulling over the Education policy, Garibashvili focused on growing the younger generation to be competitive in the international market.
"We are eager to find ways for Georgian student to have the opportunity to study at world leading Universities and later to share their knowledge and experience for the development of the country,” Garibashvili said.
He also pledged to establish an International Education Centre under the provision of the Prime Minister, that would accumulate all kinds of financial resources, including the funds of international donor organisations for issuing scholarships to Georgian students’ to allow them to receive education abroad.
In particular, the Government will finance an improvement of professional knowledge to benefit those wishing to study in Master and Doctorate programs.
Garibashvili said studies had shown these sectors lacked suitable professionals and said the Government "has to use the human resources that are the greatest assets of the country”.
The PM also identified his goal to ensure every young person has access to tertiary education and promised to build student campuses for vulnerable people who live in Georgia’s regional areas.
"Campuses have been the pressing need for Georgia for the past few years. The campuses will be equipped with all the necessities for students in order they to be able to realize their talents,” Garibashvili said.
"Parent will no longer have a fear that their children are missing out on receiving an education,” he said.
Another initiative to boost the education sector and further enhance student learning involved offering successful students the opportunity to be involved in certified six-month internships at Government organizations.
