Georgia’s Defence Minister will meet Italy’s Minister of Defence for the first time.
Irakli Alasania began his two-day official visit to Italy today and was scheduled to meet the country’s head of Defence, Roberta Pinotti. It will be the first official meeting between the two Defence Ministers.
At the meeting with Pinotti, who was appointed Italy’s first female Defence Minister in February, Alasania will introduce the reforms carried out by Georgia’s Ministry of Defence.
A statement released by the Georgian Defence Ministry said the two leaders would speak about Georgia’s contribution to the NATO-led ISAF mission in Afghanistan as well as the country’s plans following the conclusion of the ISAF operation.
The pair will also discuss bilateral cooperation in terms of defence between Georgia and Italy.
During his Italian visit, Alasania is scheduled to meet Italy’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini. His duties will also see him visit Italy’s Chamber of Deputies and meet the Chairman of the Defence Committee Elio Vito.
Alasania and the Georgia delegation are expected to visit the Armed Forces Officers Club of Italy and the Center of High Defence Studies, where Alasania will deliver a speech to the students and high officials.
In addition to his official duties, Georgia’s Defence Minister is set to visit Italy’s Flight Test Center and attend a presentation on the working of the center.
