Georgian President discusses Ukraine with Polish and Turkish counterparts

The illegal occupation of Crimea, Ukraine, and ways to move out of the crisis were discussed in detail between Georgia's President Giorgi Margvelashvili and his Polish and Turkish counterparts, Bronisław Komorowski and Abdullah Gül, respectively.

From his office in Tbilisi, Margvelashvili initiated the two important phone calls today, March 3.

Within one conversation, the Polish President reaffirmed his support to Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration and stressed the importance of Georgia's signing of the Association Agreement with the EU in the shortest period of time, the Georgian President's press office stated.

The Georgian President received an official invitation to visit Poland from Komorowski, and in turn, Margvelashvili invited the Polish President to Georgia.

Meanwhile, in the second phone call, the Georgian and Turkish Presidents discussed the dire situation in Ukraine and the impact on activites in the Black Sea region.

The two leaders highlighted the importance of supporting Ukraine’s sovereignty and the territorial integrity.

"[Margvelashvili and Gül] discussed human rights in Ukraine and the need of peacefully resolving the crisis,” the President’s press office reported.

"Margvelashvili highlighted the importance of the role Turkey has assumed in defusing the crisis.”

The two Presidents’ also "agreed to keep in touch”.

On a side note, a trilateral top-level meeting between Azerbaijani, Georgian and Turkish Presidents planned for May in Tbilisi was also discussed between the leaders.

Meanwhile, the development in Ukraine was among the other issues that were discussed at the security and crisis management council’s session today lead by Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili.
