Tbilisi is hosting a two-day seminar where international experts can discuss a proposed Georgian website that provides public information.

The Data Exchange Agency hosted the first day of seminars at the Sheraton Metekhi Palace hotel today.

The workshops aimed to get recommendations from German and Austrian experts on Georgia’s proposed open data portal www.data.gov.ge. The website is due to be created this year.

Once created, the database will allow Georgians to easily access public information, which will be sorted in themed sections.

The Ministry of Justice, which oversees The Data Exchange Agency, said the international experts would share their knowledge and expertise about releasing public data and related technical issues with Georgian industry experts.

The guests will also present international experience on creating open data portals and evaluate the Georgian Government’s progress in this field.

Representatives from Governmental and non-governmental sectors have been invited to attend the two-day seminar. The participants will discuss effective ways to develop the website and what types of information should be posted on the portal.

Georgia committed to building a public information database within the frames of Open Government Partnership Program in 2013.
