Sheraton Metekhi Palace Hotel closes for major renovation

One of Tbilisi’s leading hotels is closing for two years for a $25 million USD renovation.

Sheraton Metekhi Palace Hotel will shut its doors on December 1, 2014, for two years to give the outdated facility a much-needed makeover.

Hotel officials noted $25 million USD would be spend on upgrading the hotel.

Once renovations are complete, the new hotel will be fitted with a modern and well-equipped fitness and spa areas, new restaurants, bars and exclusive lounge areas. The hotels conference and events centre will also be expanded.

The hotel rooms will also undergo a major overhaul and increase the number of luxury rooms from 140 to 220.

Meanwhile the hotel’s trademark – its grand lobby – will remain but be upgraded, said hotel officials.

The officials noted the reconstruction work would be completed by a Georgian company however the chosen company has not yet been announced.

Hotel owners added no hotel staff would be left without jobs while the reconstruction process took place.
