Georgia is hosting a month-long festival celebrating all things Turkish as a way to celebrate and promote its close cultural ties with its neighbouring nation.

The Days of Turkish Culture festival opened yesterday with a fashion show featuring various clothes belonging to the Ottoman Period.

Ottoman clothes redesigned in modern styles were exhibited by the Ankara Tailoring School for Girls at the Yunus Emre Institute of Tbilisi at the capital city’s Turkish Culture Centre.

A total of 51 outfits were presented in the fashion show at the historical Karvasla museum.

Meanwhile the complete festival program included a range of events and activities, such as a folk concert, a special jazz night and exhibition of paintings by Turkish artists.

Guests will also be able to see the mysterious whirling Dervishes before the festive ends with a classical music concert, named ‘European Music at the Ottoman Court’ by Emre Aeaci. The concert will be held at the Tbilisi State Conservatory on November 20.

The Days of Turkish Culture event was supported by Georgia’s Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection and organised by the Embassy of Turkey in Georgia and the Yunus Emre Institute of Tbilisi Turkish Culture Centre.
