Georgia and Lithuania will hold joint military exercises

Georgian PM met with the Lithuanian Defence Minister and discussed the two countries' military cooperation today.

Georgia and Lithuania will hold joint military exercises within the NATO-Georgia cooperation package.

This was mentioned at a meeting between the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili and the Minister of Defense of Lithuania Juozas Olekas today.

The sides discussed the prospects for multilateral cooperation and stressed the importance of cooperation in defence and military education.

At the meeting the sides spoke about a mutual Memorandum of Understanding in defence issues between the two countries' defense ministries, which was in force. In addition, the Georgian Defence Ministry stated it also cooperated with the NATO energetic safety centre of Lithuania and participated in various events within the centre.

PM Garibashvili thanked Olekas for the friendship and partnership of Lithuania and noted Lithuania firmly supported Georgia’s foreign policy priorities and helped to fulfill them.

In addition, Lithuania supported the political and economic stability of Georgia and advocated for the country to strengthen its democratic institutions and state system, Garibashvili said.

The meeting was also attended by the Lithuanian Republic Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador in Georgia Jonas Plauskas, representatives of the Lithuanian Ministry of Defence, Georgia's Minister of Defence Irakli Alasania, acting head of the Georgian Armed Forces General Staff, general of the brigade Vladimer Chachibaia, Deputy Defence Minister of Georgia Mikheil Darchiashvili. Georgia's Secretary of Safety and Crisis Management Mindia Janelidze and head of International Affairs and Euro Atlantic Integration Department of the Ministry of Defence Davit Nardaia also attended.
