Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili will speak at the World Economic Forum in Istanbul, Turkey later this evening.

Margvelashvili, who is on his official visit to Turkey, attended the event opening ceremony yesterday.

Earlier, he had an opportunity to talk with the host country President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The two Presidents discussed global security issues including the Ukraine crisis and the problems relating to Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS).

Margvelashvili and Erdogan both stressed the importance of strengthening Georgian-Turkish and Georgian-Turkish-Azerbaijani joint projects.

Within his Turkey visit, the Georgian President also met with Victor Tvircun, Secretary General of the Organisation of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC).

The parties discussed the importance of the organisation in the regional economic security and Georgia’s role in it. It was also noted that BSEC was given more opportunities after countries, including Georgia, signed the Association Agreement with the European Union.

While being in Turkey, Margvelashvili met his Kirgiz counterpart Almazbek Atambayev too. The Presidents said the two countries should deepen their relations. Margvelashvili invited the President of Kyrgyzstan to Georgia. Atambayev noted he would happily take the invitation and would visit Tbilisi in near future.
