Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili is holding high-level meetings with world leaders within the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

Garibashvili met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the Turkish Center of New York. Trade and economic relationships were the key issues discussed by the leaders of the two neighbouring countries.

Garibashvili and Erdogan negotiated that the signing of bilateral agreements of investment protection would be accelerated. They also discussed the "greatest importance” of the South Caucasus Pipeline project.

The President of Turkey expressed his full support towards the territorial integrity of Georgia.

"Turkey supports Georgia on its ... Euro-Atlantic aspirations," the President said.

Earlier yesterday, Garibahsvili met with Latvian President Andris Berzis. Close partnership relations and perspectives of deepening cooperation between Georgia and Latvia were discussed at the meeting.

The Georgian leader thanked the President of Latvia for supporting Georgia in its European integration processes and for its non-recognition policy of Georgia’s occupied regions.

Garibashvili also expressed his gratitude that Latvia was one of the first countries which ratified Georgia's Association Agreement with the European Union (EU).

The two leaders discussed the Ukraine crisis and emphasized the importance of security in the region.

Last evening, Garibashvili attended the Plenary Session of Clinton's Global Initiative in New York where politicians, international leaders, academic and business circles and civil society representatives discussed current global challenges.

PM Garibashvili met well-known American actor Matt Damon at Clinton's Global Initiative event.

"Let's support civil society," said United States (US) President Barack Obama as he addressed participants of the plenary session with these words.

"Here presidents, prime ministers, state leaders are gathered but we are not the main figures - civil society is the main thing," Obama stated.

Innovations of public groups were the major topics of the plenary session - overcoming poverty all over the world, availability of healthy food, necessity of water and sanitary conditions.

The event was organised by former US president Bill Clinton. Clinton urged the society towards more involvement in overcoming global problems and integrity.

Today, the Georgian PM was scheduled to give speeches at two different events in New York. Garibashvili will speak at the investment symposium titled Invest in Georgia which will be organised by the International Economic Alliance. The Georgian PM was also expected to speak at the Open Government Partnership conference later today.
