The United States (US) is voicing its ongoing support of Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic future but is weary of the continuing investigations into alleged criminal acts of former officials.

US State Department deputy spokesperson Marie Harf released a press statement that supported Georgia's multiparty democracy and Euro-Atlantic future.

The media statement said the US urged all of Georgia’s pro-democracy and pro-Euro-Atlantic forces "to focus on their common interests, build on recent achievements and work together to move the country forward and address the pressing economic and regional security challenges of the day”.

The statement also read: "We are concerned by the continued investigations and criminal charges against opposition figures and the risks that politicized prosecutions would pose for Georgia’s democracy.”

The US State Department underlined that the US continued to support Georgia’s democratic development, which must include "respect for political pluralism and open debate.”
