United States (US) Secretary of Defence Chuck Hagel will touch down on Georgian soil tomorrow, September 6, on his first official visit to Georgia.

The Pentagon issued a message on August 29 that read: "From [the NATO Summit in] Wales, the secretary will next travel to Georgia, one of the United States' and NATO's most important and capable partners.”

On Sunday, September 7, Hagel is scheduled to visit Georgia’s Ministry of Defence and meet the country’s Defence Minister Irakli Alasania. Afterwards, an official reception ceremony and joint press conference with Alasania and Hagel will be held.

Later that same afternoon, the US Secretary of Defence will meet Georgian soldiers and the US Marine Infantry Brigade and deliver a speech to the troops.

This will be Hagel’s first visit to Georgia as US Secretary of Defence however he has met his Georgian counterpart, Alasania, twice at the Pentagon since August 2013. He also met Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili earlier this year in Munich.
