Georgia’s Minister of Defence Irakli Alasania has accepted and completed his Ice Bucket Challenge from the Central African Republic today.
A soldier’s helmet was filled with water and dumped on the Minister’s head by a local boy, who relished in his task of dousing Minister Alasania, who today became the third minister from the Georgian Cabinet to get involved in the global online campaign to raise awareness of ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), which is also known as MND (motor neurone disorder), as well as encourage donations to fund further research.
Vice Prime Ministers of Georgia, Energy Minister Kakha Kaladze and Economy Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili completed their Ice Bucket Challenge last week.
Having been nominated by NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia region James Appathurai, the Georgian Defence Minister allowed an African child to soak him while he sat in the middle of a group of children in Africa.
Alasania said he was "very proud” to do the Ice Bucket Challenge as this would allow him to contribute to the campaign and promote ALS awareness.
The Minister laughed after the ordeal and shook hands with the children standing around him.
James Appathurai thanked Irakli Alasania for taking up his challenge on Facebook.
In his turn, Alasania nominated his "good friend”, Damon Wilson, Executive Vice President of the Atlantic Council of the United States to dump ice water on his head and donate to the campaign.
As for the NATO envoy, Appathurai was challenged by a Georgian journalist a few days ago.
