Three foreign citizens have been arrested in west Georgia for unlawfully stealing more than 1,000 GEL off debit cards.
Three Bulgarian citizens were detained by Georgian law enforcers and charged with stealing money from debit cards at ATM machines in Georgia’s Black Sea coastal city Batumi.
The scammers allegedly attached skimming devices to ATM machines, which recorded information off a person’s card as they used it at an ATM. Often video cameras were used in the scam to record a person’s pin number.
Georgian police said the three suspects installed skimming devices at five ATM machines in Batumi. Using this method, the Bulgarian scammers stole 1,100 GEL from people’s debit cards.
The trio were also accused of unlawfully using computer data.
Police said the three people admitted to the crime and a police investigation has been launched.
