Tbilisi hosts Global Network Summit

An annual event promoting global economic interdependence is taking place in Georgia, and a local official is taking centre stage.

Georgia’s State Minister on European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Alexi Petriashvili attended the first day of the Global Network Summit: Caucasus event and addressed participants.

The annual event, hosted by Central Eurasia Leadership Alliance (CELA) members, brought together global leadership and business players for three days of learning and networking.

In his address, Minister Petriashvili highlighted the importance of Georgia signing the Association Agreement with the European Union (EU) and various reforms the country had implemented and planne to implement to develop the country.

He also reviewed the situation in Ukraine, the state of affairs in the region and security challenges facing Georgia.

Afterwards he told media he had a "very interactive and fruitful meeting” with Summit participants.

"Here are [representatives and participants from a] number of countries from Europe and Asia – people who are future global leaders – in an event which is also backed by the United States. Here are a group of people who contribute to creating and maintaining global networks and further strengthen relations between them,” Petriashvili said.

A prior event to the Global Network Summit was held in Baku, Azerbaijan from August 1-4 while a post event will continue from August 8-11 in Yerevan, Armenia.
