A musical group from Switzerland is coming to Tbilisi to perform traditional Swiss music at several free outdoor concerts.

Swiss band Alphorn Experience will perform traditional Swiss folk music as well as modern pieces on July 30 and 31.

On July 30 the four-piece band will play at the Shardeni / King Erekle II Street in old Tbilisi.

The alphorn is mainly known and used in Switzerland however similar instruments can be found in other alpine countries like Sweden, Russia, Germany, Hungary, and Romania.

Alphorns were made of the young spruce and pine trees that grew on mountainsides. Shepherds used the natural curve of the trees to enable the alphorn to produce a sound that could be heard up to six kilometres away.

The Embassy of Switzerland have invited the Georgian public and all musical enthusiasts to attend a concert and discover the unique sound of the horns.

Entrance to all open air concerts is free. Find the programme here.
