The newly elected chairman of Tbilisi Sakrebulo is Giorgi Alibegashvili and the first deputy chairman is Giorgi Tkemaladze.
The two men were voted into their respective roles at the first meeting of the Sakrebulo today.
Thirty-seven members voted in favour of Alibegashvili gaining the position while eight voted against it. Alibegashvili was third on the Georgian Dream list during the recent elections.
Born in 1959, Alibegashvili graduated from the 47thsecondary school in 1976 and continued his studies at the Tbilisi State University (TSU) Faculty of Philology.
From 1982 until 2006, he worked at TSU as the junior editor of the publishing house.
From 1991-1992, he was the deputy rector for Academic Affairs of Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani Pedagogical University. From 1994-1995, he worked as the head of municipal education department of the Tbilisi City Hall.
For eight years from 1997, Alibegashvili was the deputy Dean in the science field of Philology Faculty of TSU, and the Dean of the same faculty from 2004 to 2005.
For one year , from 2005 until 2006, he was deputy Dean of the Humanitarian Faculty of the State University in the philology direction.
More recently, from 2009 until today, Alibegashvili worked at the Georgian University of Patriarchate.
Meanwhile, Giorgi Tkemaladze was today elected as the first deputy chairman of Tbilisi Sakrebulo. His candidacy was supported by 38 Sakrebulo members, while four voted against and two abstained from voting.
Tkemaladze was also a member of the previous Sakrebulo.
In the new Sakrebulo of Tbilisi, Georgian Dream has 37 representatives, out of which 13 passed from the proportional list and 24 as majoritarians.
In addition, United National Movement has seven members, Nino Burjanadze – Unified Opposition has three members and David Tarkhan-Mouravi – Alliance of Patriots has two. One additional member, Aleko Elisashvili is an independent candidate.
