Georgian Parliament speaker is congratulating his colleagues on signing the Association Agreement (AA) with the European Union (EU) before entering a Parliament meeting today.
"On this historic day, historical hour and historical second, just when we are starting the Beaureu meeting, representatives of Georgia lead by Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili are preparing to sign a historic document,” he said.
"We will talk a lot about this document, including in the walls of Parliament, because after the AA is signed, the document will be transferred to Parliament. Georgian Parliament will be the body, which will take final decision and ratify the agreement,” Usupashvili noted.
"We, the Parliament, have a very important role in the signing of the AA and more importantly in the process of its implementation. A very consuming work awaits us to ensure that all issues are properly reflected in Georgian legislation,” he said.
Georgia's Parliament speaker said in July a special session of Parliament will be held, where the AA will be ratified.
"A committee hearing will be held and we all together, once again, analyze all the processes and procedures, which we should follow in signing of this document and Georgia’s accession to the EU.
"Congratulations, in a sense we are participants of the process, which takes places in Brussels at this moment,” Usupashvili added.
