Runoff elections costs 5 million GEL

The second round of voting following the June 15 municipal elections is expected to cost about five million GEL, preliminary estimations reveal.

Of this sum, three million GEL will be allocated from the Government’s Reserve Fund, Georgia’s Finance Minister Nodar Khaduri said today.

He presented the financial document about allocating money from the Reserve Fund to Cabinet at today’s Governmental meeting.

Khaduri said more than 1.5 million GEL remained in the Central Election Commission (CEC) coffers leftover from the first round of elections. This money would go towards organizing and hosting the runoff elections, which are due to be held in late July.

It is believed about 35 million GEL was spent on the June 15 municipal elections.

The exact day of the second round is not known yet. It will take place some day in July or August.
