Georgian performers are going beyond the stage to perform their latest show – they’re taking their set to the roof.
Akhmeteli Theatre are set to kick off their next performance tomorrow night on their outdoor stage, in what will be a first for Georgia.
A public reading of the play Maskhara and Baudrillard, which is imaginary dialogue between young Georgian painter and film director Giorgi Maskharashvili and famous French philosopher Jean Baudrillard, will be held tomorrow.
For the first time, Georgian theatre-lovers will not take their seats inside an auditorium but on top of the roof in the most "avant-garde” theatre in Tbilisi.
The author of the play is Georgian writer Irakli Kakabadze, who performs using the stage name Anonin Marto.
In his piece, Kakabadze uses fragments from two books of Baudrillard: The System of Objects and The Spirit of Terrorism: And Requiem for the Twin Towers.
"The idea is very innovate; it is the next stage of post-modernism”, Kakabadze said.
"The main character Gizo is a universal man. He can make various things simultaneously. He is an amazing man and people who come to the roof will get to meet Gizo”, he added.
The unusual theatre event is being held under the project Brecht on the Roof.
Those wishing to attend should follow these strict rules: wear comfortable sportswear clothing and bring a television remote control, which is the ticket of the performance.
The Mayor’s Office of Emergency Situations will provide special help to move spectators to the stage.
