The President of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso, is coming to Georgia for his first official visit and show support to the nation.
Barroso will arrive in Tbilisi tomorrow, after travelling from Moldova.
"The visits to Moldova and Georgia underline EU support ahead of the signature of the Association Agreements and the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (AA/DCFTA) with both countries on 27 June,” read the European Commission statement issued today.
During his two-day visit to Georgia, President Barroso will meet Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and President Giorgi Margvelashvili, and make the opening speech at the Georgia Investment Conference.
The Investor’s conference will focus on business activity and investment in Georgia.
"Experience in other countries in Europe shows that that's where the new agreements will bring the biggest long-term economic benefits,” the EU official said.
One of the main benefits of the conference will be its discussion of what the AA/DCFTA will mean in practical terms for businesses, said event organisers.
The conference will also provide opportunities for businesses to showcase themselves and to promote their products and services. International financial institutions and business support organisations will also provide participants with information about their activities in the country.
Barroso will leave Georgia on June 13. The following day he will visit Azerbaijan for the last leg of his travels.
