Georgia hosts 6th annual International Wine Awards

The only International Wine Competition in the Caucasus region was held in Georgia over the weekend where the best of Georgian wine and cheese was presented alongside a full range of products and services from the global wine industry.

The competition jury, composed of local and foreign wine experts identified 28 winner wines after tasting more than 100 samples of wine from large companies, small boutiques and family businesses.

The overall prize of the 6th annual International Wine Competition was awarded to two international winners for their dry white wine produced in the Czech Republic and Slovenia.

The Gold Medal winner in the "Qvevri White Wine” category was won by the Beka Gotsadze Family Winery for their Goca Domestic Wine – Green.

The Gold Medal in the red dry wine category was jointly awarded to three Georgian wine companies – Shumi for Shumi Saperavi 2013 and Iberian Mukuzani, Kindzmarauli Cellar (Kindzmaraulis Marani) for Oak Saperavi and Khareba Winery for its Khareba wine.

The awards were presented by chairman of National Wine Agency Levan Davitashvili and other members of the international jury.

Davitashvili said the exhibition was a unique chance for producers and exporters to raise awareness of their products, meet others in the industry and improve their business opportunities.

The International Wine Competition was held in the scope of the International Wines and Spirits Exhibition "Wine Expo Georgia 14” and was held at Expo Georgia in Tbilisi from June 6-8.
