The President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili is promising non-governmental organisations (NGOs) he will listen to their concerns and opinions ahead of the municipal elections.
Margvelashvili and representatives of a variety of NGOs met yesterday and discussed the pre-electoral environment. The group spoke to the President about the current situation and issues facing Georgian citizens.
After speaking with the group, Margvelashvili noted the election process was progressing without any major violations in a mainly peaceful environment.
"I promised the representatives of NGOs that I will always listen to their opinions and remarks very carefully. We talked about the violations that were revealed in the process of the self-government elections [and] I have the impression that the scale of the problems are smaller,” Margvelashvili said.
At the meeting, everyone agreed that the standards, according to which the elections process will be evaluated, will be oriented on progress and ensuring a better future, the President said.
He promised NGOs discussions about the elections would continue to be held after the municipal elections are held on June 15.
Meanwhile, the President also called on the Chief Prosecutor’s Office to timely investigate cases where candidates were removed from elections lists and said this was "crucial” for conducting fair and democratic elections.
