UN Human Rights chief to visit Georgia

The United Nations (UN) High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay will visit Georgia from May 18-22, 2014, to discuss the human rights situation in the country.

In Tbilisi, Pillay planned to meet President Giorgi Margvelashvili, Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Justice, Internal Affairs and other Government officials.

She will also hold discussions with the chairman of the Supreme Court, the chairman of Parliament, Georgia’s Public Defender, civil society representatives, the UN country team and members of the international community.

During her visit, her schedule also showed Pillay would visit a settlement for internally displaced people as well as the Administrative Boundary Line (ABL).

At the end of her five-day visit, the High Commissioner will hold a press conference at the Radisson Blu Iveria Hotel in Tbilisi and will sum up her visit.
