A US Navy warship has docked at Batumi Port as it looks to complete its task of promoting peace and stability in the region.

The Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate USS Taylor (FFG 50) arrived at the Batumi Port, a black sea port of Georgia, for a scheduled port visit today.

USS Taylor’s presence in Georgia reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to strengthening ties with NATO allies and partners like Georgia, while working toward mutual goals of promoting peace and stability in the region, the US Embassy in Georgia said in a statement.

The arrival of USS Taylor was welcomed by Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili, who said it was important for Georgian coast guards to learn from the experienced Navy. He also focused on the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

While in Georgia, USS Taylor will host ship tours and a reception for local officials. The Navy crew will also conduct a training session with the Georgian Coast Guard in a range of exercises including Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS), maritime medical care, career development systems and leadership ethics.

The USS Taylor, home-port in Mayport, Florida, is currently deployed in a multi-mission role in the US 6th Fleet area of operations, which contributes to regional maritime security. The ship and its crew are also tasked with conducting bilateral and multilateral training missions and to support NATO operations and deployments throughout the region.

The US 6th Fleet has its headquarters in Naples, Italy, and conducts a full range of maritime security operations and cooperation missions to advance security and stability in Europe and Africa.
