Outgoing Ppresident of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili, expressed his gratitude to each voter who participated in the presidential election 2013, after the exit polls gave outright victory to GDs presidential candidate Giorgi Margvelashvili.
In a five minute post-election speech, Saakashvili addressed to the that part of Georgian society who are "are unhappy with these results and said that any kind of "retreat is temporary.
"Georgia elected a new president. { } All the elections, regardless of their results, serve further democratic development in our country and ultimately, democracy is a major foundation of our political system, which we are so proud of, he said.
Saakashvili believes that that the voter turnout was much lower [in the October 27 presidential election 46.6%] compared with to many previous elections and it is an important sign that it is necessary to be constantly in dialogue with our people.
"Based on the traditions, which we shaped during past ten years and which can no longer be uprooted, I believe that Georgia has a very bright future. We'll overcome all difficulties! We'll compensate the wasted time and go ahead for a better future," Saakashvili noted.
Saakashvili, who is barred from a third term as president, has already announced plans to lead his party in opposition of to the Georgian Dream.
