The Armenia-Georgia inter-parliamentary cooperation congress has finished negotiations.
Georgian and Armenian MPs have been discussing the issues of strengthening cooperation between the two countries and how to achieve this goal in the future. At the end of the congress, the parties adopted a joint statement and memorandum.
The joint parliamentary work was assessed by the head of the Foreign Affairs Parliamentary Committee, TedoJaparidze as very timely and important.
"Working process was developed in several group sessions and fruitful discussions took place on the issues that are about mutual relations. As a result of the discussions, the parties reached a joint agreement and signed a memorandum between the Foreign Affairs Committees where those particular steps are reviewed, which these committees have to make in order to ensure that the bilateral relations are more active, effective and result oriented, Japaridze said.
In the joint statement, the parties recognize Armenian and Georgian peoples brotherly relations and commitment from their multi century history. Doing so, they state that:
1.The constructive bilateral inter-state cooperation between Georgia and Armenia is a strong foundation for further development and enhancement of bilateral inter-parliamentary ties.
2. They agree that they have a special obligation to raise awareness of their electorate about the necessity for further development of relations between Georgia and Armenia and thereby facilitate the interstate relations based on trust, mutual respect, and mutual understanding.
3. The parties stress the importance of the two countries inter-parliamentary cooperation in terms of harmonized legal regulations.
4. The parties recognize the importance of the joint projects implementation in the future, as well as the necessity for projects and initiations of similar economic interests, and recognize the need of parliamentary support and control for these kinds of projects and initiations.
5. They welcome the trend of intensive and extensive inter-parliamentary relations and stress the need for support in expansion of this collaborative effort.
6. They agree to make such format of cooperation traditional and convene the next meeting in Georgia next year.
MPs attended the cultural events organized inthe framework of the gathering.
The congress on the prospects for cooperation between the parliaments of Armenia and Georgia was organized by the OSCE office in Yerevan.
