The leader of the Georgian Parliamentary opposition and head of the United National Movement Party (UNM), David Bakradze delivered a speech at the conference of Chairmen of European Parliaments Foreign Affairs Committee.
The conference took place parallel to the Vilnius Summit.
According to UNM, David Bakradze thanked former Lithuanian head of state Vytautas Landsbergis for his support of Georgias elections in October 2013.
He also stressed Georgias widely articulated pro-European public opinion, which is a very important factor for both the EU and Georgian government.
David Bakradze welcomed the initialing of the Association Agreement and noted that the previous government worked hard for many years to achieve this goal.
In his speech, the UNM leader also talked about the need to stop the ongoing political setbacks for democracy, selective justice, and political vengeance campaigns in Georgia. According to Bakradze, signing the Association Agreement next year will depend on the improvement of these factors.
UNM members Giorgi Kandelaki and Giorgi Baramidze also gave speeches at the conference.
Later, David Bakradze will participate in the summit of the leaders of European Peoples Party, which will be attended by the European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso, the head of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy, and EU leaders.
