Tskhinvali and Sokhumi request EU’s two countries recognition

Only five UN member states recognized Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

The de-facto governments of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, the two breakaway regions of Georgia,requested recognition from Italy and San Marino.

At the press conference organized by de-facto Foreign Minister of Abkhazia Viacheslav Chirikba and his de-facto counterpart from South Ossetia Davit Sanakoev, announced that they have already sent official letters asking for recognition to Italys President Giorgio Napolitano and the representatives of San Marino.

"We are on the way to international recognition and the process is irreversible, Sanakoev said.

Furthermore, Chibirkanoted that achieving "broad international recognition, from EU member countries is their top priority in order to "Never return back to Georgia.

Georgias breakaway regions have been recognized by Russia, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Nauru, Tuvalu, Nagorno-Karabakh Republic and Transnistria.
