Russian cellular company operates illegally in Georgia

GNCC will accuse Russian company MTS of illegal operations on Georgia’s occupied territory.

Georgian National Communications Commission conducted monitoring of the radio frequency spectrum and revealed illegal operations of Russian cellular company MTS on Georgias occupied territory.

According to the GNCC (Georgian National Communications Commission), the monitoring confirms that MTS is active in all seven Georgian villages near the barbed wire in Shida Kartli, central Georgia. However, the mobile network operator wasnt identified yet.

"For now, its impossible to name the legal entity. We will work on it, said the press secretary of Regulation Committee, Khatia Kurashvili. "But its known that the transmitter is located in Tskhinvali. When we are ready to positively reveal the company, we will use the relevant articles of the administrative code to impose sanctions against it.

On October 28, Georgian Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili said during his press-conference, that he suspected Georgia would bring an action against the Russian cellular company MTS.

"The Polish journalists told me that across the 200 meters near the Russian-Georgian border, the mobile phone of MTS cellular reports, Welcome to Russia. I want to caution MTS, if this fact is proven, we will accuse them according to the all international standards that are relevant. Im not sure if the Russian government knows it, but I want to appeal them. Please, avoid such kind of misunderstandings. Bidzina Ivanishvili stated.
